Essence of Adhyatma Upanishad

  • Our body consists of five elements which are: ether, air, fire, water and earth. An eternal entity called the soul lives inside our body and all the elements. But, most of us are not aware of it.
  • The mind, intellect and ego are the soul’s body. But, they remain in ignorance about it.
  • When our physical body dies, the soul leaves it, yet it stays with the mental body. As our soul climbs higher dimensions, it leaves the mental body too.
  • Brahman means the eternal soul.
  • We should understand that we are that (Brahman). With this understanding, we will be able to distinguish between the real and unreal. Then, our attention will shift focus from our five senses to our immortal self.
  • The air inside and outside an empty pot is the same. Similarly, our self remains the same everywhere.
  • We should realize that divinity is present everywhere.
  • When we reach the state of choiceless samadhi through meditation, all our ignorance ends, and we attain self-realization.
  • The eternal self, which is the soul, is everywhere and everything. This immortal self is not affected by duality. It remains one.
  • We should understand that we are essentially our immortal self (That Thou Art).
  • The blissful state of samadhi erases all conditioning. In such a person, their natural qualities come to the fore.
  • A self-realized does not need to renounced anything. They become natural, unique, un-compared and blissful. T hey become silent, pure, imperishable, infinite and verily God-like.
